We met up for breakfast in Carrick-on-Shannon in the Landmark Hotel about half way to Sligo.
Day 1 was in Strandhill Golf Club, a really good links course. As can be seen from the first picture it was raining. By hole 4 it was lashing and by halfway it was a Monsoon. The decision was taken to abandon due to adverse weather, the wind being strong enough to break umbrellas. This was the first time we had not finished a round. The weather did not improve the next day and no golf was played on the Friday. Tony, Gary, Jimmy and Dave lead the way around and all played well. Second out was Noel, Mick, Bob and Paul to a reachable par 5, if you don't go out of bounds left or water right.
Saturday and Sunday were set up in Rosses Point, we were not due to play Sunday so teetimes were late we finished in Sligo at 5 o'clock
Saturday morning we headed to golf with the sun shining at last. Rosses Point is a true links course which means bunkers, rough and blind shots. As a result it was safer to be shorter but straighter off the tee. The Leader (Gary) and the Deputy Leaders (Dave and Noel) where in great form and full of confidence. Now some of that might have been a result of the "Can in the Kacks" incident in their room.
Entertainment in Sligo is nonexistant, we visited Fiddler's Creek where an XFaxtor contestant was playing, people loved him.
First time trip to Sligo with the Rosses Point reputation a big attraction. Thi syear we brought our own photographer Tom Halpin Clickity Click
DON Club Trophy was won by Bob Preston.
Hotel was Radisson Blue on the outskirts of Sligo. Courses played were Strandhill and Rosses Point (County Sligo)
